Online tutoring tops the list of ‘work from home’ careers for women!

The last decade has seen a rising trend in the enrolment ratio of women in higher studies. At the same time, more women are leaving jobs, due to various reasons such as early marriage, less pay, childbirth, spouse’s career changes etc. According to the latest statistics, there has been a steady decline in Female work Force Participation from 37% to an all-time low of 23%. If we inspect the reasons for women leaving jobs, the difficulty to work away from home forms the common denominator. If women are given the freedom to choose to work from where they like, it is possible to bring more women into the labour force. With the change in work-culture imposed by the pandemic, working from home has proven to be equally efficient as that of working from an office.

Keeping research and statistics aside, it is worthwhile to ask this question, “How easy it is for a woman to start a career after a long gap?”. What pulls them back? It is obvious and undoubtful that ‘lack of knowledge, resources of academic qualifications’ are not the primary reasons. Often, we oversee that the primary issues are lack of quality childcare services and the hesitancy to share household chores among spouses. Pandemic has been instrumental in breaking some of these gender-based barriers. Working flexibly from home, has enabled many women to make a come-back into their career during the pandemic-locked down. Most of them, after a long career break have efficiently proved themselves capable of being productive as not not only employees but also employers and entrepreneurs.

Among the most saught after options for earning from home, online tutoring has gathered much attention in the recent times. Many women report that setting the infrastructure to start an online tutoring job is very easy. If you have a quality internet connection, and a laptop or even mobile phone, you can start working anywhere anytime. Moreover, the online tutoring career allows for flexibility in time, location, the method of teaching, and fees etc. There are plenty of tutoring consultancies that connect tutors to students and facilitate their journey. The demand for tutors is ever-increasing so as the income. Teaching is a two-way process and the added advantage of choosing a teaching career is that it sharpens your skills while you earn and this makes teaching the most pursued career after a considerable break.
